properties: carnelian is a type of chalcedony that ranges in color from translucent red brown, and orange, to brick red due to hematite it forms with.
 
powers: protects against envy, fear, rage, and helps banish sorrow.  the message of carnelian is that since one is love, there is nothing to do but offer love. it also cleanses negativity from other stones.
 
history:  carnelian comes from the latin word 'cornum' meaning "cornelian cherry". it was a favorite of roman gem engravers. the prophet mohammed wore a carnelian seal and it was one of the first stones worn in the breastplate of the high priest.
 
medicinal: carnelian helps heal cuts and abrasions. it is used in the treatment of colds, pollen allergies, kidneys, and gall stones.

geography: chalcedony is found worldwide, yet brazil, uruguay, and india produce all types.
properties: it is formed by tiny quartz fibers that layer upon each other producing a banded appearance.
 
powers: chalcedony balances the energy of the body, mind, emotions, and spirit. it is a symbol of benevolence and goodwill. it alleviates hostility, irritability, and melancholy, and enhances generosity, responsiveness, and receptivity.
 
history: was used by native americans as a sacred stone during ceremonies to promote stability among the tribe.
 
medicinal: chalcedony fights build-up materials in the veins. it increases mental stability and is said to cure forms of dementia.

geography: shallow, warm, clear water at depths of 10 to 45 feet.
 
properties: coral is the vacated exoskeleton of colonial polyps, small animals that create these forms from calcite dissolved in sea water. red is typically due to iron, although there are also soft corals in shades of black, gold, and a rare gray blue.
